Weizenbaum to Serve as Interim DADS Commissioner

AUSTIN – Jon Weizenbaum will serve as the interim commissioner for the Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) while a nationwide search for the agency’s next leader continues.

Weizenbaum has served as DADS deputy commissioner since May 2006. Before that he was director for the Center for Policy and Innovation at DADS, where he was responsible for overseeing policy development and oversight, analysis and support, and quality assurance and improvement.

Addie Horn is retiring as DADS commissioner today after overseeing key reform efforts. Weizenbaum will become the interim DADS commissioner on Sept. 1. He will manage day-to-day operations at DADS until a new commissioner is announced.

Weizenbaum also has served as legislative policy director for the Texas Senate Committee on Health and Human Services, specializing in aging and disability services, and has experience as a clinical social worker. He holds master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work and the LBJ School of Public Affairs.
