Molina Named Deputy Executive Commissioner for Social Services
AUSTIN – Health and Human Services Executive Commissioner Albert Hawkins has named Joanne Molina as his new deputy executive commissioner for social services.
Molina previously served as associate commissioner of the Office of Family Services at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and has more than 30 years of experience in eligibility services. In her new role, Molina will be in charge of HHSC’s Offices of Eligibility Services and Family Services and will work closely with the Department of Family and Protective Services and the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services.
“Joanne knows the state and federal requirements for eligibility services inside and out, and she has a vision for how we can improve and streamline the application process for Texans,” Hawkins said. “Her skill, knowledge and experience will help us continue to modernize our eligibility system.”
Molina began her health and human services career in 1975 as a food stamp worker in Dallas and has worked in a variety of positions related to eligibility services, policy and quality assurance. She served as senior policy adviser for social services before becoming head of the Office of Family Services. Molina is a graduate of University of North Texas and has a master’s degree in public administration. She begins her new duties this week.
Molina replaces Anne Heiligenstein, who became commissioner of the Department of Family and Protective Services on Dec. 1.
